I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the spanking new Profoto B2 from Profoto
Singapore. This is a 250 watt battery pack that comes with 2 light heads. It is quite a
lightweight and tiny system! The small light heads however still fit all the current Profoto
light shapers too.
So what better time to use and test it than my upcoming photography project sponsored
by the good people of Fujifilm Singapore. This project is in light of SG50 and I will be
shooting Singaporeans from all walks of life from the ages of 1 to 50 years old to mark
Singapore’s 50 years as a nation.
I have decided to pair the B2 with the Fujifilm XT-1 and XF56mm F1.2 APD to shoot this
portrait series in an on-location set up at Fujifilm Studio in Funan Digitallife Mall. Would
the B2 be enough for an on-location studio set-up? Although I have been using Profoto
lighting system for years, I did have a little doubt if the B2 would be powerful enough for
studio work. But boy, was my doubts cleared up after the few shots! The B2 still produces
the same beautiful Profoto “light” that I love that kept me in love with this light system.
So for this series, I have a simple 2 light set-up; a main light with the silver beauty dish with
a grid attached as my main light, and a second light on the side of the model as a kicker light
which I have also attached the new OCF grid on to. As for the power settings; I have set it to
6.5 for main and 5 for the side light. Recycling time on the B2 is quite fast and the battery life
is ample. I had managed to take more than 400 shots for this session and in the process,
exhausted one battery while leaving the second battery with less then 50% left. My camera
settings were at ISO 200, F4 and 1/180.
Would I add the B2 into my existing Profoto system? As a commercial photographer; I am
always power hungry but I would think I will definitely love to add the B2 into my stable of
lights. Should I need to shoot a portrait on-location, the B2 will be the right light system to
bring along. And if I should really need a bit more power, I would just bring an additional B1
along. What more could I ask for? 2 more spare batteries for the B2 and I am good to go with my trusty Fujifilm X-series system.
Hi there. Thanks for the information on the Fuji x-t1 with profoto B2. Photos are great! I have a similar setup and was using pocket wizards to trigger the profoto as the air syncs were out of stock. I just received the air sync ttl for canon today but does’t seem to fit the hotshoe? Which profoto trigger are you using? Thanks for any help, Sue

So it mean that profoto b2 works excellent with fujifilm x-t1 or x-t2 ?????? And there is a profoto trigger and receiver?? HSS WORKS GREAT AND TTL???
There is no HSS for Profoto to work with fujifilm. Profoto transmitter works well with fujifilm. Not sure about TTL as I don’t work with TTL. cheers.
Ivan: I’ve been reasearching using the Profoto B2 with my Fuji XT2. Will I need any additional equipment to have the B2 work with the XT2?
Hello Suzanne. All you need is a profoto transmitter. that is all you need to pair them up.
I am seeing that these transmitters are specific to canon and Nikon?
they have a transmitter for other brands. but no HSS feature.
