A bit of haze couldn’t stop a group of photographers from
attending the Pin Up Girls and Hot Rod photography workshop.
This workshop is organize by Fujifilm Singapore with the supporting
brands like Profoto, Zeiss, Lastolite and Gitzo tripods. Its like a
party for the best brands in the world! And we are the special invited
guest.

X-T + XF16mm @ F1.4
When one arrive at the venue; immediately you will be transported
to another era. An era of old from the 30s’ to the 70s’. From vintage
cars like Ford model T of the 30s’ to the more “modern” Corvette.
There are 3 juke boxes; each with their own collection from 50s, 60s’
and 70s’. As for now; the owner; Kevin is playing Summer Holiday by
Cliff Richard. Only those old enough will know who Sir Cliff Richard is.
Today’s workshop is a 3 hours session. I wanna strike a balance instead
of sharing how the awesome Profoto lights pair with the X-series system;
I wanna give all the participant as much shoot time in this lovely location.

My first set up is with the Ford model T with 2 lovely models. A total
of 6 Profoto lights have been used. A 7B with 2 heads. One of which
is mounted on the beauty dish and grid on it. Two B1s on the left and right
of the Model T. This is to give a bit of dimension to the lines of the hot rod.
I have another B1 at the back of the car to light up at the colorful background.
If not it will be rather dark. Lastly a small portable B2 inside the car to light up
the interior frame of the car.

All the Profoto lights used in this set-up are all battery powered. Therefore
it save me quite a bit of time compare if I were to use the non battery powered
system for the set up. No time wastage in connecting the wire and looking for
power point. These lights are awesome for location photography and as a
Profoto user for years; I think battery powered light are the thing of the future.

For the 6 lights set up; my weapon of choice is Fuji X100T. Its really a pocket
wonder! Small as it may be; It does pack quite a big punch. Its set at F11,
ISO 200 and shutter speed of 1/1000. The X100T has a leaf shutter lens;
therefore I am able to shoot at a higher sync speed compare with DLSR.
X-T1 was also used in the other scene. I can’t emphasize enough the power
of Fujinon lenses and the X-trans sensor. Together they produce so much
details in every picture!

Its was indeed a fun day of shooting and sharing at such a great venue.
A big thank you to everyone who came for this event, for without each one of
you; this event will not be possible. Cheers.

Hi there, mind sharing where is this workshop you created yr pin up gals + hot rods?
Appreciate it if you could kindly share.
Cheers
Willy Low
Hello Willy,
Its at Seletar Camp. 🙂
Was all your photos directly exported in jpeg format without post-processing?
If not, Fujifilm’s jpeg is so amazing
Hello Kien, All my pictures are always shot in Raw. Maybe its because of work as a commercial photograher.
some basic process in Capture One; like saturation, contrast etc. Fuji IQ is awesome. cheers mate.
I’ve heard that Fuji’s raw file hasn’t been utilized in any software. Thus, the shadow/highlight area would be soften after processed. Is that true?
Hello Lu, where did you gotten this information? The reason why I left Canon to X series is because of the IQ. even though its
a 16MP APSC sensor; its really a pocket rocket! So far my work flow is process with Capture One and then I will work with PS.
The image have been amazing.
Happy Shooting.
Hello Lu, I am not sure. So far I have no issue with this. I use capture one to process my pics. so far so good. 🙂
Hi Josh,
I’m a documentary and street photographer. If I already have a 23mm lens, so you think it will a bit redundant if I pull the trigger on 35mm 1.4 for tighter shots? Like the 56, but it just doesn’t feel like a “everyday” lens. Looking forward to your professional input on this. 🙂
Hello Dom.
That depends on your personal need and what is important to you. Each lens have its strength and also its down side.
You could live with 23mm as a street photographer. Personally I think a 35mm and 14mm will be a great combo too. its small
and light.
Exact location for this? I went seletar camp, that is military protected area.
Its at a private collector’s home. Its not open to public.
