Wider and better? Check out the latest Sigma 12mm F1.4 ultra-wide prime lens.

Now, there are plenty of ultra-wide primes for Fujifilm X-mount, but most are manual focus. I’m not talking about those. I’m talking autofocus ultra-wide primes.
Native Fujifilm options? There’s the XF14mm F2.8 and XF16mm F1.4—both over a decade old—plus the compact XF16mm F2.8 WR, and the excellent XF18mm F1.4 LM WR (which I absolutely love for its optical quality and blazing AF). But the 18mm isn’t quite ultra-wide.
The others are the newly launch Viltrox 15mm F1.7. Perfect for Fujifanboys on a budget. Ideal for those who are new to Fujifilm X-mount eco system. The other is the Viltrox 13mm F1.4 AF. Which I own and it’s an amazing lens. A little heavy at 415 grams. It’s optically good except sometime it does product a blue dot in the frame due to flare.
The other will be the Sigma 16mm F1.4 AF prime lens. Which is also pretty big and weight close to the Viltrox 13mm F1.4 lens. A good lens but may not be wide enough for some.
That’s why the new Sigma 12mm F1.4 fills a gap. Here’s why I think it’s worth a look.

Size & Build
At 225 g, it’s surprisingly light for what it is—just a touch heavier than the 180 g Viltrox 15mm F1.7. Build quality is solid, and yes, it has an aperture ring with beautiful 1/3-stop markings (no de-click).
It’s dust- and splash-resistant, so light rain is no problem, and the front element has a water/oil-repellent coating—handy for outdoor shooting.
Optics
Sharp. Very close to the Fujifilm XF18mm F1.4 in image quality. There is a bit of chromatic aberration, and you’ll see some barrel distortion when shooting architecture, but overall, optical performance is excellent.

Autofocus
Fast, quiet, confident. Minimal focus breathing, so video focus pulls look natural.
Final Thoughts
If you want an ultra-wide prime with autofocus, there’s nothing quite like this on the market right now. I don’t know the final price as of this review, but I expect it to be competitive.
This Sigma 12mm F1.4 AF is Small, light, sharp, weather-resistant, fast, quiet, and with a lovely aperture ring—this one’s worth shortlisting for all Fujifanboys.
