The life of X-E series have always been a roller coaster ride. With some success and there are few moments it’s production life is also on the chopping board. After technically 4 generation, it’s still alive and kicking. X-E1, X-E2, X-E2s and X-E3. I am never been a fan of this model and have never own a unit. Through the years I begin to realize there is a pretty huge cult following of this camera.

I wonder what is the attraction? The size and the price? It’s certainly X-series smallest interchangeable camera. Perfect for street photography. Maybe its the design that didn’t catch my eye.

When I first received it, its like any X-E series. It didn’t stir any emotions in me. After sometime of using it I begin to see some light in this camera. The design concept has some similarities of X100V. The highlight would be the flush-in back LCD. This is a welcome to many X-E user. Really useful for street photography.Plus this LCD is able to flip upwards for all the selfie addict. Now that it’s cool.
Below are a few snap taken with X-E4 + XF23mm F1.4 or XF56mm APD plus a Moment CINELOOM filter ( 20% strength) . Here is the link if you like what you see. I would recommend this filter for street. https://moment.8ocm68.net/P2kLj

The design element of X-E4 is also slicker and flat. Some may find there is no grip of any as the front panel is totally flat. For me I have been using it for while and I have no issue. And if you do find difficulty gripping the X-E4, there is an option for accessories. There are a thumb grip and handgrip. I actually like the thumb grip very much.

The best paring would be the new XF27mm MKII. This lens is just a tiny bit thicker thanits predecessor. Actually one will need to place it side by side and take time to see the different between the 2 lenses. Which is not easy to detect if you don’t the MK 1.So what is new? 2 things. It now has WR to weather the element and it also has a sexy aperture ring. What more could we ask for?

I think the X-E4 is a very modern looking camera. Strangely I think the X-E4 has evolve to a rather good looking camera. Without a hybrid viewfinder, I always find the X-E series isn’t 100% complete in the design department. But X-E4 proves me wrong. A friend ask me if I would ever buy the X-E4? I reply a straight NO. A few weeks of testing it; I might have a change of hearts. Both my wife and daughter loves the X-E4.
I am not a fan but I would highly recommend this camera. X-E4 is very well price mid-range camera, that share the same 4th generation sensor andprocessor as the X-T4. Loaded with heap of film simulation. Lightweight and small. Paired with a new XF27mm, one is ready to conquer street photography.
